At Champion Petfoods®, as Pet Lovers ourselves we understand just how important our pets are. Many of the dogs and cats in our Champion Petfoods family found their fur-ever home through the help of various animal rescues. We are thankful for the work done by all animal rescue organizations across the world who take care of cats and dogs in need, caring for them and finding them a home!
We love the opportunity to directly support animals in need in our community and help the important work that rescues do. Champion Petfoods offers a pet food Donation Program which focuses on long-term commitments through partnership with local rescue organizations to provide healthy, Biologically Appropriate ORIJEN and ACANA food for pets in need. Our Rescue partners are vital to our community by caring for these cats and dogs in need, whether through shelters, fostering, adoptions, food banks or community feeding programs.
Our pet donation program focuses on partnerships with rescues in our immediate community, working with rescue groups local to our NorthStar Kitchens in Alberta, Canada and our DogStar Kitchens in Kentucky, USA. As Pet Lovers ourselves we only feed our pets ORIJEN and ACANA pet foods because we believe they are the best pet foods available. We want the same premium, Biologically Appropriate nutrition to be available for all cats and dogs, including those in rescues or shelters. While good quality nutrition is important for any pet, our rescues directly see the positive effects of our high protein, nourishing pet foods on the cats and dogs that come into their care. We hear many amazing success stories of animals who came into their care in poor health who end up thriving on our diets.
The costs associated with running an animal rescue can be extremely high. Many rely on amazing teams of volunteers and donations to support their work, but still have costs to pay for staffing, building operation costs, veterinary checkups and procedures, and the cost of feeding the many mouths in their care. Being able to provide quality nutrition at no cost to our rescue partners allows them to focus their resources on other areas and potentially help even more animals than they would have otherwise been able to.
We work with more than 35 rescues in the communities where we do business to provide regular food donations throughout the year. In 2020 alone we were able to provide more than 1 million nutritious meals to cats and dogs in need!
