Inspiring Stories From Real Animal Rescue Adoptions

Do you remember the first time you laid eyes on your rescue dog? The first car ride home with him, the first walk around the block? Each new experience with your rescue pup was probably both exhilarating and scary, but the final result was an unbreakable bond you’ll cherish forever.

The team behind ACANA® pet food recently followed the journeys of three families, documenting the trials and tribulations with their newest four-legged family members: Erin and rescue dog Monty; Tony, Warren and rescue dog Scrappy; and Alexandra, Charlie and rescue dog CeCe. Each adoptive family had a unique experience, with one common denominator: each dog was eating new ACANA Rescue Care for Adopted Dogs. Keep reading to learn more about our adoptive families and their unique and inspiring stories!

Erin and Monty

Erin adopted Monty, a senior rescue dog, after he came from a neglectful home. His previous foster parent was unable to meet his needs, as Monty was often difficult to walk on a leash. However, with a little help from a trainer, Erin has been able to improve Monty’s walking. And though she never intended to officially adopt him, their bond was evident from the beginning, and now she’s welcomed Monty into her home and life for good! Today, Monty frequently joins Erin on all her sunny Californian adventures, including skateboarding along the seawall, hiking hills, and even travelling. Watch their story below.

Tony, Warren and Scrappy

Tony and Warren never realized they needed a dog until they welcomed Scrappy, a pitbull mix, home from the shelter. Scrappy, who is not a shy puppy in the least, has been challenging his dads since the day they brought him home. Both Tony and Warren have been making great strides at training him to be a good, well-adjusted dog. They even managed to get him to slow down when he eats with gentle, loving reminders that the ACANA Rescue Care for Adopted Dogs Free-Run* Poultry Recipe is all his and isn’t going anywhere! Since welcoming Scrappy home, Tony and Warren have been more motivated to get outside, be more active and even meet and get to know their neighbors. Watch their story below.

Alexandra, Charlie & CeCe

CeCe’s first experience at her new forever home with Alexandra and her daughter, Charlie, got off on a slow start. CeCe was characterized by the animal shelter as damaged and bad with kids, but CeCe quickly proved those characterizations wrong. While CeCe was initially very timid and demonstrated some separation anxiety, Alexandra, a veterinary technician, noticed the potential in CeCe right away. After a few short weeks at her new forever home, CeCe’s come out of her shell completely and has embraced her new family, developing a strong bond with both Alexandra and Charlie.
