Show your dog some love

All this extra time we’ve been spending at home due to the pandemic may be causing some serious cabin fever, but our four-legged family members aren’t complaining! After all, more time at home just means more belly rubs, head scratches, treats and all-around quality time together. ACANA® recently surveyed 2,000 Pet Lovers regarding the social life of their dogs during the pandemic, and some of the results were surprising—puppy love is real, and we can show our dogs love in so many different ways!

38% of respondents reported that the number of puppy playdates they schedule for their dog has increased since the pandemic started, and over half have even played “matchmaker” for their pet at the park or another location. Giving our pets ample opportunities to meet and play with others is a great way to show them how much we love them.

Fun fact: 56% of pet parents surveyed admitted referring to another dog as their own dog’s significant other!

These statistics indicate that Pet Parents know how important socialization is for their dogs. Coordinating days and times to meet up for the sole purpose of puppy play promotes a deeper bond between pet and parent. While some of the physical restrictions imposed during the pandemic have been challenging, prioritizing your pet’s emotional and physical well-being is a wonderful way to display your affection when you’re able.

Pet adoptions have increased significantly since the pandemic began more than a year ago, and it’s important to ensure any new dogs or puppies adopted are being raised in the best way possible. Not only does that include proper socialization with other dogs and people, but starting them off on the right nutritional journey as well. For rescue dogs, ACANA® Rescue Care for Adopted Dogs is a great option for dogs transitioning from shelter dog to their forever home. It’s great for dogs that may be experiencing some digestive issues or just need a little extra TLC during their transition. For newly adopted puppies, there are several puppy-specific ACANA options to try. Whatever you choose, show your dog some puppy love with healthy, nutritious food and plenty of outdoor playtime—you never know, your dog might even meet their new best dog friend!
